Social organizations, leaders and participants to the peaceful strike running for three days already in Quibdo (Chocó), have reported that on Thursday, August 18, that members of the Mobile Anti-Riot Police (ESMAD) have attacked, provoked and harrassed the population, excessively using force and violating its constitutional duty.
Given the breach of the agreement by the national government during the strike of 2013, the only option left to the people is the organized and peaceful social protest in the streets and highways of the country.
More than six thousand peasants are demonstrating since 30 May next to the Pan-American highway. They are asking to the national government to solve the difficult problems faced as a result of the current agricultural model and to respect the agreements reached in a previous strike.

It's remarkable to see how much media attention obtained the recent tour made by the French sociologist Daniel Pécaut - nationalized in Colombia -, around Colombian universities and newsrooms of newspapers and magazines.
