The Monitoring and Verification Mechanism is an organism composed of FARC-EP delegates, Colombian Government delegates and United Nations delegates with the objective of –as stated in its name- monitoring and verifying the ceasefire process and all activities related to it including the future reincorporation of the FARC-EP to civilian life.
On Monday the UN has set in motion the verification of the bilateral ceasefire between the Colombian State and the FARC-EP. The ceasefire has been called by the parties last August, in the last stage of the peace negotiations in Havana.
New York/Bogotá, 31 October, 2016 - The United Nations Security Council sent a letter to the Secretary General today giving the green light to the UN Mission in Colombia to verify the ceasefire and cessation of hostilities, following a request from the the Government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia—People’s Army (FARC-EP).
The FARC-EP welcomes the decision of President Juan Manuel Santos to maintain the Bilateral and Definitive Cease of Fire. And we reaffirm for the tranquility and trust of Colombian society and the international community that we continue to decisively correspond to that decision.

The delegations of the National Government and the FARC-EP have agreed protocols and annexes to the agreement on "Bilateral and Definitive Cease of Fire and Abandonment of Weapons” announced this past June 23, which will allow its implementation.
