The murder took place at 7:10 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, in La Paz neighborhood, when Cuetia was meeting with friends and a relative in the El Tablazo trade settlement.
Éder Cuetia later decided to leave the place and sat at the bar. There he was approached by an armed man wearing trousers and a dark hooded coat that covered his face. The guy shot him and walked away in the direction of El Pedregal neighborhood.
According to some versions, the murder was committed by two individuals, who were riding on a motorcycle.
Éder Cuetia Conda was shot in the head with two 38-caliber revolver firearm projectiles which instantly caused his death.
Cuetia, a resident of Los Andes de Corinto, was the father of two children aged two and fourteen, a member of the indigenous reserve of Lopez Adentro, a member of the action council of the village Siberia and of the political and social movement Marcha Patriotica.
The Police Department of Cauca, in an official statement, said Cuetia was a petty criminal who "apparently engaged in the cultivation of marijuana."
It is well known that illicit crops are the only opportunity for the survival of hundreds of thousands of Colombians, and although the Government agreed with the FARC-EP on addressing in a social and public health way the situation, the Public Force remains engaged in repressive measures, measures that are absent and inactive when the issue is dealing with the phenomenon of paramilitarism, private armies that dominate vast regions of the country.
In the same area, last week had also been assassinated Jesús Montoya Yonda, official of the city council.
