Asked about the decision of the president to not extradite the political prisoner of the FARC-EP Juan Vicente Carvajal, the spokesman said the FARC welcomes and appreciates the decision. ?It is a positive sign, but at the same time we consider that the figure of extradition should disappear from the judicial scenario in our country; it should recover its judicial sovereignty (?)?.
He explained that currently there are 9.500 colombians imprisoned and it is estimated that 1.200 are FARC-EP prisoners. The rest is unjustly paying sentences, just because of demanding their rights. As an example, he mentioned the National Agrarian Strike in 2013, where many humble peasants where put in jail and haven?t been released until today. Many have been senteced for collaborating with the FARC-EP. Under the mandate of ?lvaro Uribe V?lez, many were imprisoned who are still in prison today. They should be freed, according to the comandante.
Comandante Lozada, responding to a question about the progress of the peace negotiations, stated that both delegations have been working hard in order to close the point of Victims, including the justice component.
He was also asked about the insurgency?s proposal for Peace Territories; some people say that the FARC wants to change these territories in demilitarized areas. Lozada affirmed that these voices are attempting to demonize a proposal which aims at the normalization of the territories where the conflict has been developed. He recalled the story of the ?independent republics?, which, according to him, was precisely the way of thinking that led us to the current social situation, something that could have been resolved easily with economic, social and political measures.
He also affirmed that these Peace Territories are meant to become a real laboratory of reconciliation, of re-unification, not only of the two parties but also of the two Colombias, divided and separated by inequality and social and economic imbalance.
When asked about the functions of the military in these zones, he said that local security is more a police-issue, not a task of the military forces. ?The role of the police can be carried out in multiple ways, while the army must fulfill others, for example, ?defend the sovereignty, recover the identity of our sovereign and independent nation?.
